Our History & Impact
Scratch is a vibrant digital space where children from all walks of life engage positively with technology as creators and problem solvers.
Designed in 2007 by Prof. Mitchel Resnick and his Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, Scratch is rooted in decades of educational research. In 2019, Scratch moved out of MIT, becoming the independent Scratch Foundation.
What began as a groundbreaking research project has developed into a global phenomenon, supporting millions of young people who imagine, connect, and create.

Our Future
Scratch Foundation’s 100 Million More Campaign is raising $30 million over two years to help us reach the next 100 million children and continue to scale.
By our 20th anniversary in 2027, the Scratch community is expected to reach an incredible milestone: 200 million users. This includes an astonishing 10% of the global Generation Alpha population — the 2 billion children born between 2010 and 2025 who are inheriting a world shaped by technology like never before. We’re focusing on engaging these digital natives with positive creative learning experiences that center their well-being, curiosity, and imagination.
